Hello,
I've been trying to figure out if it is possible to write a piece of code that sets up a pin that regularly·checks for an·outside input in order to find out when the input goes high. This will be used in order to hook up a smoke detector so that the board will know when the smoke alarm goes off.
Thank you.

Start here·with What’s a Microcontroller?·at this link at page 71 but i would start page 1
This talks about using a·switchs with a Basic Stamp you would use the 4N25 instead of the switch

·Here is the data sheet for the 4N25
http://www.vishay.com/docs/83725/4n25.pdf·Look at
Fig. 14 - Switching Schematic

The only type smoke alarm that you·might use is the type that has a light that light when the smoke alarm gose off the light will light
Also make sure to use the·ones that are battery and have no AC power to it
You also will need to·use an 4N25·Optocoupler Sensor
·in place of the light bulb
Becareful when do this because· you may harm your Basic Stamp if this is·not done right
