Making the "Subject" line a required field

There seems to be a lot of posts where folks are not typing in a subject line.... I hate having to open a post just to find out that is it is about a topic that I have no interest in...

Can the Subject line be a required field in order to make a post?

Consider looking at "no subject" as kind of like "wild card"; if that doesn't appeal to you, then just don't open that door.

If, instead of "(no subject)", the default display was "I don't care enough about getting a reply to include a subject", this problem would go away. smile.gif

Posting a descriptive subject line is listed in the forum guidelines. Unfortunately not everyone follows the rules. Phil has a point…When I see these posts I sometimes attempt to remedy the situation, but often see several replies to the message indicating that some people don’t mind replying to a (no subject) message and the original poster then doesn’t learn from this. Our IT Dept. is devoting all of its resources to streamlining our website and internal processes. By making things more efficient internally we can keep our costs down, something that is passed on to the customer. We just don’t have the resources to devote to correcting all the shortcomings of what is, essentially a $100.00 piece of software which is unsupported by the authors. In the mean time I will keep reminding posters to use a descriptive subject line. Unfortunately sometimes this results in a new (duplicate) post, instead of editing the original.

Should we not post responses to posts without a subject or ask the poster to put in a subject?

I say we just leave it go and not make a tempest in a teapot.·

Lots of·members don't know what the "red X" button is for, if they're told to edit their post and/or add a Subject.

If "no subject" offends you, then don't look into it.·

Even requiring a subject doesn’t stop posters from putting in stuff like, “HELP!!!!!!!!” Some day perhaps we’ll have an opportunity to upgrade the software and we’ll try to address some of these issues. Being that the forums are inherently community supported as well then other members have the opportunity to guide new members into improving the way they post. Like helping them with the issue itself, it is up to the person reading it whether they want to get involved. As I find posts with (no subject) I attempt to correct them by simply grabbing the main point from a sentence in their post. In the future I think I will also post instructions on how to edit their post.

Now that we seem to be done with this issue, can we PLEASE get back to the Support messages which deal with UPLOAD PROBLEMS, in another thread?

This is not a one-person problem, as many of us have had the problem. It appears as though now some folks are using photobucket, and use other similar picture warehouses to place their files, only so that there is some place to link to, and somewhere to upload them.

I can't use Internet Explorer, or Opera. Others seems to have had problems with other browsers. Each of these problems is noted in the above messages. The file TYPE doesn't seem to matter, it happens at all times of the day and night, and file associations seem to have nothing to do with the problem. I can't even upload (say) a BS2 filetype!

There HAS to be some answer other than WAIT! We've been WAITING, AND STILL NO ANSWER. Is there an answer? What is it?

    Regards,

    Bruce Bates

Involvement and committment can be best understood by looking at a plate of ham and eggs. The chicken was involved, but the pig was committed. ANON
