BS1 on OSX?

Is there an editor for the Basic Stamp 1 that works with OSX? It appears that MacBS2 only works in the PBASIC 2 languages. Am I dense and missing something obvious? I was getting ready to order the BS1 Project board, then I looked at my editor. confused.gif

No. The BS1 compiler (tokenizer) is separate from the one for the BS2 and hasn't been ported to non-Windows platforms.

Rats. Has anyone tried booting windows on an intel based mac to program a BS1? I'm not sure that the USB to serial adapter I have would work with that. Thanks for the fast response. I just had a design class at my school that required us to use a BS2 and I throughly enjoyed it. The thought of a BS1 for 15 bucks was a bit too much to pass up. Shame it wont work on my system.

Windows works fine on an Intel Mac for programming a BS1. You need a serial to BS1 adapter for $5 if your board doesn't have it already. If there's a DB-9 connector, all you need is a compatible USB to serial adapter (from Parallax, FTDI, or Keyspan's High Speed adapter).

I have VMWare (Parallels' Desktop also works) running Windows XP. You can also use the Mac's alternate boot setup (Boot Camp). I use Parallax's USB to serial adapter and the serial to BS1 adapter and it all works fine.

Awesome. I have XP and bootcamp already loaded on my macbook, and the USB to serial cable I have works just fine when programming the BS2, perhaps I'll have to drop the $15 and see what happens. Thanks again.

I am trying to connect my mac(OS·X 10.4)·to BS2 with the USB cable from the boebot kit. Which is the better way to go:

1- download bootcamp to the mac. If so, how?

2- download a mac compatible usb-driver to the mac. if so how?

Download MacBS2 using the link on Parallax's Stamp software downloads web page.
This includes a Mac driver, but it's not the latest. Get the latest driver from FTDI's
website. MacBS2 is an IDE for the BS2. It automatically calls the Mac version of
the compiler (tokenizer) and handles downloading to the Stamp and a debug window.
You don't need BootCamp if you're using MacBS2.

I agree with Mike - start with MacBS2.

Note Bootcamp won't work with OSX 10.4. There was a beta version that used to work 10.4 - but that expired a few months ago and Apple pulled the beta version from it's website. If you go the Windows route - you'll also need to invest at least $85 in Windows XP Home SP2 or better.

    Thank you both very much.

I have downloaded MacBS2 from parallax. The attached

I will download the latest version of the Mac driver that came with that had bugs.

I went to FTDI and downloaded the latest version of the Mac driver. I will install it and let you know how that went.

That did not come out right.
    It should read:

If you're referring to the message from MacBS2 complaining about bugs in the serial driver, it's an old message and I don't think it's accurate anymore.
