When I install a prop plug on my proto board, which side goes up? thanks!

I'm not sure which proto board you have but on the prop plug each pins purpose is screen printed on it (tx,rx). I would suggest looking at the schematic for your proto board and compare that with the screen printing on the plug. In my case I have a breadboard and the "up side" depends on how I wired things on the breadboard.

PropPlug fits logo dome side up, RX marking on the dome closest to the PSU connector.

I don't think you will fry anything by putting it in backwards, it just won't work.
