Have I lost it???

I'm trying to get my BS1 started. I have the old printer port cable
and I plugged in everything and the Win software doesn't recognized
the port or can't find it. There's nothing there to select a port.

And why does it keep saying serial port when I have a parallel port?

I don't have the smaller 9-pin serial port... is that a problem?

The solution is to buy or build the serial to BS1 programming adapter and use a PC serial port.· Look at the webpage in the Parallax webstore for·the BS1 for details on the adapter.

The Windows Stamp Editor only uses a serial port for programming and you have to use the adapter.· If you want to use the parallel port programming, you have to be running DOS or Windows 95 / 98 and using the DOS version of the Stamp Editor.

Thanks... I was kinda thinking that my stuff was obsolete but I was saying no way -
    not with Parallax.

Now I'm going to have to buy and wait for delivery. Wait a minute - my PC doesn't have
a serial port so I'm going to have to get the USB adapter as well. I have Vista & XP - only
because I had to downgrade to XP to get stuff to work.

    Thanks.

Well, the BS1 isn't obsolete. Parallax provided a mechanism for updating the programming process. It's not possible to manipulate the parallel port in such a way to properly program a BS1 under Windows 2000/XP/Vista, so now there's an adapter that you can even build yourself and the Stamp Editor has been updated to use a serial port, even with a USB to serial adapter in the way.

Dr. No. I bought a PCI serial port card for $14.00 at a local store. works like a champ. BS1 rock they have their place, but they are cheap and work well.

The serial port card would have been great but it's a laptop which I got a few years ago
but it didn't even include a serial port.

I think I might have a serial 2 parallel cord. Would that work anyone???
I'd probably still need an older operating system wouldn't I?

    Thanks anyway.
