Making your own programming cable

I have Basic Stamp Rev. D that uses the old printer cable hookup.

I understand there's a link that shows you how to make your own cable.

I'm really having a hard time finding it. USB would be great.

Thanks.

You must be referring to a BS1 which is the only Stamp that used a parallel I/O cable for programming.

Parallax now makes an adapter from a serial port (DB-9) to the 3-pin programming connection and this works very well with a USB to serial adapter. Look at the Parallax webstore page on the BS1 for this adapter and you should be able to find its schematic and duplicate the device.

    Thanks.

I found that diagram in the software help. I was just hoping for a direct usb to 3-pin cable.

Please bear in mind that the 3-pin cable system only works on DOS-based Systems. Operating Systems like Windows 2000/NT/XP do not allow direct access to the port and therefore will not work with that connection method. The software that uses that connection is also DOS-based.

I'll be using my old cable (assuming it still works)... can't wait to get started. And I'll be using the Windows version of the software.

    Thanks.
