Hi Parallax Inc. or
People working with BASIC Stamp 2 Module !

Has anybody experience on the life time (MTBF) of the BASIC Stamp 2 module of Parallax ?

My application in mind:

Some sort of a clock drive, which·would require the BS-2·to operate for several years (preferred > 10 years) at 24 hours a day.
Ambient conditions: indoor
Operation mode:·less than 5mA per Pin will be drawn.
Cyclic eeprom writting: not required

Has maybe somebody else been running the BS-2·in an·application·running several years·and made any lifetime experiences for BS-2 ?

Thank you for sharing your experience !

Approaching ten years, 24/7 operation, nearby lightning strikes, hundreds of Stamps, no problems.

I have a BS-2, non industrial version, on a ham radio repeater which has been running 24/7 for the last 4 years in an uncontrolled environment.

It reaches >105 F in the summer and around 0 F in the winter.

It has experienced several near lightning strikes and one ground induced hit which hit the building and took out an antenna rotor control along with the AC mains and the BS-2 is still working to this day.

    eMax,

12 years ago (about 1 year after the release of the BS2)·I designed a 240VAC automatic blower/vacuum system for a machine shop that is still in operation.(<--last checked 1 year ago)
The program currently running keeps a LOG of which machines are used most frequently, updating only when they are turned on/off... logging, mainly for justification purposes when it came time to order new equip.
