Ultrasonic sensor

I have a Ping sensor that I am using with a BS2 to get familiar with ultrasonics for the first time. It works great but I was hoping to be able to build the same thing with separate components to be able to better understand the workings of it all and try some changes. Does anyone know if any similar ultrasonic projects are available from before the ping was around. Thanks, Dave.

I have played around with making my own US sensors, and in fact have built a navigation system based on US. What you want to do is really fun and educational. My version of the PING actually worked a little better, but was about 3 times as big and cost more. Do a search for "ultrasonic range finder" "ultrasonic transducer sensor" and you will find stuff. Feel free to PM me and I can give details of my experiments.
