I want the ability to record voice and playback through a speaker. Does anyone know of any good chips to do this with. I want at least ten minutes of record time.
I have tried winbond isd 5116 but got the pinouts wrong and think i have damaged it. but I cant get any tech support for it! I have tried calling them but it puts me through to a company that sells them and they dont know much!

Quadravox makes a player / recorder that uses an MP3 chip, the QV606.· They used to make a WinBond-based device, but switched to some other platform.· Parallax used to carry a special version of the WinBond device.

I had a need for high-quality audio in a project recently that would be played through amplified speakers, and the best digital recording chips given to me by professional EEs sounded horrible: the audio was muddy and too much hiss. I ended up hacking into a small 1GB MP3 player and used a Basic Stamp 1 to control it and switch tracks. It ran off of a single AAA cell, so I made a 1.5V voltage regulator using an LM317T. It gave great sound quality even at loud volume (twin LM386 audio amps)and had a built-in microphone for voice recording.

Is this for a BASIC Stamp application?
