Using Belkin USB to Serial converter for Basic Stamp

My new laptop does not have a serial port on it, so I purchased a Belkin USB to Serial converter.· The converter established COM4 for serial communication, however I am unable to communicate with the basic stamp.· Any thoughts that might help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

Many USB to Serial converters will not work for programming a Stamp. This requires proper implementation of the DTR handshake line and many converters only implement the transmit and receive data lines or sometimes other handshake lines. Keyspan's High Speed Serial Adapter works and Parallax's adapters work. FTDI, who makes the chip used by Parallax, also sells their own finished adapters and those work.

Belkin is one brand we are unable to get to work with our product and is listed internally as being incompatible.
