Pelco Protocols and the Stamp

I have taken on a project where I need to design an interface for rugged environments where normal commercial desktop keypads will not tolerate the environment.

I am going to use a Stamp since I got familiar with the Stamp BS1 about 10 years ago and did a couple projects but then haven't looked at it for a long time.

WOW talk about evolution!! BASIC stamps have come a long way!

Anyway The keypad I am dealing with will be a membrane type manufactured custom for me for this project.

It will have a 16x16 matrix (although the entire matrix will not be utilized, only 30 keys), and will output either Pelco "P" protocol or "D" protocol via rs422/rs485

Has anyone done work with Pelco protocols and the BASIC stamp before?

And I am a little overwhelmed about writing a matrix scanner at this point to be honest and I have done some searching and found a few things, mostly they are programs with 4x4 matrix

Any help at all would be wonderful

Thanks!

WOW.· Someone out there actually does the same stuff I do!· I designed a box that is based on the basic stamp and communicates using Pelco "P".· My system was designed to control 12 cameras all accross the state of South Dakota.· They are located at tower sites and used for a TV stations skycam network.· What the mission was is that at every site there is other things that need to be controlled, video switched, dished that need to be moved, etc.· From one controller the 422 is split several ways and sent out via ethernet and then over either internet and/or wireless networks.

At each site the information is decoded back to 422 where it is split to both the camera and the basic stamp circuit.· The basic stamp send out a serial code to a video/audio switcher which is selected via the 9 aux buttons on the controller.· It also has several relay outs that move microwave dishes and are controlled via the joystick.· At a few other sites I also use 14 relay output to control cameras that do not use the 422 control.

Just wondering what you are trying to actually accomplish in the end.· Is this a project that is made for temporary use or install?· Is this for yourself or are you looking to resell this equipment and code?· I would be very interested to know what you are doing and depending on what your plans are either working with you or selling you a completed box that already does what you are trying to accomplish....

If it is something you are looking to buy directly you can email me at jstraatmeyer@iw.net or if it is just for your own use lets talk about it here so other people can learn from it also...

    Hey Joms!

    Thanks for the reply.

I am designing camera systems for use in petro-chemical applications.
Drilling rigs and offshore platforms, as well as petro-chemical plants.

Our goal is to provide explosion proof camera sites on drilling oil and gas operations and I have designed an enclosure to operate in that environment. Currently it is all hard wired and can operate a single camera site, which is suitable for only certain applications.
Now I want to design a multi camera system

As you might have guessed, a Pelco (or any other) keypad would not survive very long in that environment so this is why I am turning to the Stamp for a solution.
And yes I would be interested in a collaboration. I had intended on asking if anyone might be interested in this. If I can purchase the system already coded and modify it to meet my needs I would be more than willing to do this.

Here is the enclosure in it's current configuration. I have already begun designing a keypad to replace the one in this picture to provide controls for camera selection.

And I am also interested in learning more about the stamp itself.

    Thanks again for the reply!!
