What do you guys think about this product from www.laserpcb.com/ to make your own PCB? Essentially the process is to print your circuit on copper foil that has self-adhesive backing. You use a once thru laser printer to lay down the resist (in conjunction with their "gel") then you peel off the copper, stick it on FR4 board, and etch it as usual. Only constraint, it seems is you can go above 550 deg F on your solder iron or else the trace becomes de-laminated. I think it's a cool product and was going to give it a try....

Try the Homebrew PCB Yahoo group, someone there might have tried it. I can make a PCB just as quickly and easily with the classic UV exposure technique.

I thought I understood how laser printers work. But being able to deposit charged toner particles on a conductive substrate without the charge dissipating and the toner falling off kinda screws up my understanding of the whole process. And how can the fuser possibly work wth a medium, like copper, that conducts heat away so rapidly? What am I missing here?

BTW, that copper foil's gotta be brutal on the paper feed mechanism. I wouldn't use an expensive printer for this.

Xerox used to have a technique for transferring toner to the copper on a PCB using their flat-bed copier, which could then be fused and etched. I saw it used once when I worked for Rank-Xerox.
