Stamp and Mill Project

All--

I am going to try to implement a mill tachometer on my mill. However, I think I am going to use an optical encoder instead of the Melexis. It seems straightforward enough.

I just mounted a scale on the quill with an SPC output. Here is a picture . . .

I am building a mount to attach the quill to the bracket on the LED encoder. (Pay no attention to those double hose clamps around the quill!) The LED encoder on the scale has an SPC output. I know this is a data output port (statistical process control). I would like to use the SPC data port to drive some 7 segment LEDs to show the quill depth. Can anyone tell me about SPC and how I might get a Stamp to talk to it in order to drive some 7 segment LEDs?

Thanks!

    Bill,

It would appear that the SPC protocol is a pseudo-RS232 protocol according to this site: http://www.matronics.com/cncscale/

There's more if you google and exclude statistical process control.

Example: spc -statistical -process -control protocol

    Regards,

    Terry
