Forgive my lack of knowledge of the scribbler (i've only vaguely heard of it)... but what guidance system do you use to find
    the docking station?

All IR, all the time. There's a 556 beacon pulsing IR out that Scribbler detects. You can see it in the videos, a 2" square circuit board mounted on a wire rod above the charger. The robot drives underneath it, then finds and follows the black line toward the charger contacts.

    Hey everyone,

Just got my September/October 2008 Robot Magazine. erco's Scribbler hacking article is included. It is a two phase article with further info and phase two (the docking station itself and Scribbler modifications) to be posted on the Robot Magazine website. The website parts (code examples and phase two) were still not up the last time I checked (is is my experience that this info comes online gradually, maybe waiting for all the subscibers to receive their magazines). It is a great project and I hope to use some of it for a intro robotics class this fall.

See the videos posted above on this thread if you want a preview. The Robot magazine site is here http://www.botmag.com/
You will eventually be able to click the Septmeber/October issue and find the online portions there.

    Thanks erco!

As usual, Whit is right on top of things. My sizeable article got edited down to a 2-page spread in the magazine, and the rest will be on the botmag.com website. The editor tells me they are working fast & furious to get it all online ASAP,·and he gave me the OK to post the program listing for Phase1 of my article (attached here). This lets you use a universal TV remote to drive the Scribbler around and have it track toward a "MUTE" signal from the remote. You must configure your remote control to send Sony television codes. No·robot mods at all, just great fun to chase the cat with your Scribbler.·Remote control codes are displayed in a DEBUG window when it's hooked up to your computer, so it's fairly easy to modify the program listing to use different control buttons than I did. Whit did it and was my very first Beta tester! Hope it works for you, and do check out ROBOT magazine and their website for more info.

    Eric
