Analog output with FREQOUT

Hello all,
I have a pretty simple circuit (same as shown in Basic Stamp command reference) feeding a NXP semi TDA7056. I'm using the sample circuit there. ·No matter what I do, this circuit buzzes terribly ( assuming this is the PWM noise to generate the sine wave) . I have even tried a voltage divider with a pot to make sure I am not saturating the amp and getting some other issue. Has anyone gotten a good audio tone with an amplifier?
I also tried a direct piezo buzzer on the output, I get a consistent tone with that, but not enough volume.
Thanks.
