Hayes 9vac

· I bought several Hayes Optima and USRobotics external modems, but the 9vac power sources (wall-warts) were not included in the sale.·

· I've tried using·"2.1" and "2.5" connectors that I have and those on wall-packs around the house as a trial fit, but their outside diameters are too big; it's definitely the O.D. holding up the show.· So, I·guess that the Hayes dimension is a bit off (or everybody else's vice versa.)

· I've searched around and haven't found reference to the Hayes "standard" dimension for this much.

· If you have a Hayes wall-pack and can measure·the power connector's·O.D. or if you·know what the O.D. is, please turn me onto that info.·

· ["No wall-packs, no worries..."· Well, Imagine my chagrin, will you --·and here I figured this for·a slam-dunk.]

    PJ,

This is probably stating the obvious, but a way to check six or eight different sizes at once is to take your modem to a local Radio Shack and try it on one of their universal wall warts. If one of them fits, then measure it...

    Regards,

    PJ,
Mine measures 0.100" ID and 0.215" OD. It is a 9VAC adapter for a USRobotics Sportster 33.6 external modem.

    Hope that helps...

    Bean.

Here's how my debacle resolved --

    RS stocks 5.5 x 2.5 and 5.0 x 2.5

The 5.0s go in, but the 5.5s will not.·

    1/2mm makes the difference.·

    Amazing.

["Manager's Special" at our local RS; maybe yours, too.· Tons of stuff in '$1 each' boxes, $15 for 2.4GHz audio links (reg. $80).· I don't know if they were on sale, too, but I even saw a bunch of C3PO and Darth Vader heads, proximity sensing, genuine voice recordings.· Just the thing for all of the "bot head" dweebs.· Better go scope out your RS.]

I live just a few miles (less than 10) from RS's main outlet store. In addition to their own merchandise, there are parts that were apparently bought for mfg to use, but never did, returned goods, closeouts, overstocks, etc. Nothing like a handy surplus warehouse!!!

And now your modems truly are bargains!

    Terry

P.S. I'll have to look for a head...
