Im using the DS1302 Timekeeping Chip in a time clock.· I have a battery backup to keep the time when power is gone.· Sometimes the clock "locks up" and wont change until I send it the update time command.· Is there any way to keep the RTC from locking up on the time?

You may·have found what i found ·out that when the battery get low if you are
using nicads the time will stop and all you have is the time where it stop

That is why i post this in the completed Project forum

    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=709460

So i could run the Basic Stamp and the DS1302 chip on one· battery pack
and not use the DS1302 battery Back·Up·Mode

I found the answer. even though it says the charge mode is disabled on startup, when I sent the proper commands to the chip the battery backup worked like its supposed to(I noticed I was getting 5v from the battery pin without a battery hooked up to it).
