Disc Stakka

I opened up my disc stakka today to remove a disk that got stuck.
Whilst looking inside I noticed that it was very simple in design and I thought that it might be a good project for the Basic Stamp or the Propeller.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to make one however If anyone wants to take up the challenge here are the detail.

This is a picture, duh. smile.gif

Inside is a large "turn table" looking platform with slits in it for the discs to sit in.

At the front is two padded rollers that push the CD out / Pull it in.
and a phototransistor to detect a disc.

I couldn't see how it pushed the cd into the rollers however I am sure you could come up with a way. smile.gif

If someone decides to make one then please post your progress.

To push a CD out of the rack and into the rollers, just have an arm mounted in the central section that rises up and pushes against the edge of the CD...

I've had plans to build something like this myself(another of the projects that never left the drawingboard), but it kind of got obsoleted by iTunes and my iPod...

Maybe I'll build one for my DVD-collection...
But then it'll also need to move the DVD into the DVD-player and back again.

    Ah yes,
As long as the arm is always underneath the Disc at the front.
So just mount an arm that raises up that doesn't move with the centre disk.

I like the disc stakka because with the ipod you don't need the original CD's anymore and the disc stakka lets you store them nice and compact.

    Thank you smile.gif

You still need to store the original covers, though...
(But that's what an attic is for.)

I have all my CD cases in a box that is kept in a cupboard.
That keeps them compact and out of the way.
Yet I can still easily gain access to my discs if I need to. Thanks to the disc stakka.

Ah... I wish I had an attic. smile.gif

It's not all fun with an attic, either...

I'm still laying down flooring in mine...
(Bolting 2x4" beams to the a-frames, nailing down boards, wading in 'glass wool' type insulation, itching everywhere... )
