Development board w/all the bells and whistles
Hi,
I'm in the process of designing my own development breadboard, for the SX and Prop. I currently have both the P.D.B. and the propeller demo board, but would like a single board that has both the SX and Prop circuitry, and also allows access to all the I/O pins. I like building this type of a project,·and I'm looking for ideas·of different features·to include.
Below are features that I'm considering. If it has a star"*" next to the feature, it would be nice to have, but not essential.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
1. Power supply with fixed output of 3, 5, 6, 9, 12 (positive and negative) as well as an adjustable output.
2. Keypad
3. LCD
4. A bank of 7 segment LEDs
5. Several banks of pull-up/down resistors
6. Several banks of frequently used parts (caps/resistors/diodes etc)
7. *ZIF Socket(s)*
8. Several banks of different value pots.
9. Easily swapped·XTALs·of different values
10. Bank of transistors
11. Bank of common ICs (OP-AMPs, 555 timer, etc)
12. Function generator
13. Active filters-lowpass/highpass/bandpass/60 Hz notch.
14. 2 each SX and Propeller MCUs (I sometimes have several projects going at the same time)
15. Rotary encoder(s)

Pardon a newbie speaking up but I have one suggestion and one question.
Suggestion: Instead of putting a bank of common ICs, why not a bank of common socket sizes so you can swap
out ICs as needed?
Question: Are you going to put up a schematic and some photos afterwards? I'd love to see how this ends up.
You're the best judge as to whether you really want all of that. Some things would probably be nice, such as an on-board function generator. Others, from my perspective would just add to the overall complexity and provide more room for error and intermittents... Every additional connection is a potential disaster, or at least aggravation.
I do like ZIF sockets, to the point that I removed the IC sockets on my Super Carrier boards and replace them with ZIFs (gotta watch out there, however; the more commonly available ZIFs are a bit large!)
Just my two cents' worth
