qti on/off

Hello all,

I am using qti sensors for line detection on a piece and it seems like they will work great. I see that the sensor is to be wired with B to VSS, R to a controller pin for signal and W to a controller pin for power. With this piece I am running short on pins... could W just be wired directly to VDD to save pins or is there a reason that it needs to be switched on and off in the program?

thank you,

david

    david -

Why don't you give us an inventory of the present pin port use, and perhpas we can see a way to avoid having the QTI sensor on all the time. There's no sense using power when it may not necessary to do so. Note what the status of each pin is (Input or Ouput) and what is connected to the pin port.

    Thanks for the reply Bruce,

I'm using 6 qtis, three motor drivers, three light to frequency converters and a relay on a BSII so my pins are pretty much tapped out. Power saving is not really a concern. I was wondering if leaving the qtis on all of the time would damage them in any way? Every document Ive found on them has them switching on and off in the loop... is this only to save power or does it effect their function?

    cheers,

    david
