Unable to identify Javalin on any COM port
I have a BOA Rev A and a Javalin that I had used successfully with my prior computer. My new laptop computer (running Windows XP Pro) has no serial port, so I purchased a Parallax USB-to-Serial adapter. I also downloaded and installed the latest Javalin IDE (2.0.3 build 0). However, when I try to find the Javalin from the IDE with the "Identify" command, the IDE fails to find a Javalin on either of the two COM ports listed (3 and 4). The Javalin is plugged in and working fine (it's still running the program that I downloaded from my prior computer), the operating system sound indicates that a device has been connected when I plug in the USB connector, and the USB-to-Serial converter has a solid green light.
I searched the forum and read the pinned post about USB trouble-shooting, but I didn't spot any information that appears to apply to my situation.
I suspect I am either missing a driver or that I need to configure Windows in some way to let the USB port appear as a COM port, but a search for those topics yielded nothing.
I'd be grateful for any clues on how to proceed.

Comments
to the port edit list.
Go to Project->Global options, tab debugger, click ... button
and add the com port.
Then click ok.
Then try Project->Identify.
