Where the heck have I been?

Greetings, friends!

The reason I dropped out of sight for so long is that I've been working on a Propeller hardware project; a prop based Guitar/Audio processor called the Howler. If any of you are curious the site is here: www.howleraudio.com and some of the initial discussions are here: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=690777.

I'm working hard now to wrap up the software, put the nail in the chassis design, and get these things into production. I actually wrote pong for the thing one night, just because I thought it would be funny to play pong with real knobs on a guitar pedal. One of these nights I'll probably port my Hydra implementation of SpaceWar to it just for kicks :)

Congratulations, epm! The Howler looks awesome.

I hope you'll be back contributing to the forum soon. You've been missed.

Very cool. Are you going to try and make some money with it? Or just put out the design and let people make it? Might be nice to build 50 of them and see if you can sell them as well, charge for the hardware and tech support.

Very impressive, looks like a fun project...
You should port some games and include them in the menu... wink.gif

Living on the planet Earth might be expensive but it includes a free trip around the sun every year...

Experience level:
[ ] Let's connect the motor to pin 1, it's a 6V motor so it should be fine.
[ ] OK, I got my resistors hooked up with the LEDs.
[X] I got the Motor hooked up with the H-bridge and the 555 is supplying the PWM.
[ ] Now, if I can only program the BOE-BOT to interface with he Flux Capacitor.
[ ] I dream in SX28 assembler...

Sorry for not responding; somehow I did not get subscribed to this thread so I missed the replies!

Bamse,
I wrote a pong just for fun because I had knobs. I will probably port spacewar just to be a loony, and use the knobs for rotation and thrust :)

Andre,
Yes, it's going to be a commercial product. The first pre-production run is about 10 units. After that I'll do a larger run of 50 or 100.

All,
I'm going to be hanging out at Parallax's booth at the Embedded systems conference and showing off the Coyote-1 (formerly the Howler; see the blog for the details of the name change: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=711145). If any of you Hydra folks are going to be in town stop by and say hi! I hear the Hydra is going to be on display right next to me, so I'll probably do some double duty and sing its praises as well.

That is pretty cool. I would love to be there, but Cali is too far away. Take some pictures and post them here :)

Yeah, thanks ep, like JT said, would be great to be there, but current work load + distance are a major part in stopping me this year, hopefully next year :)

It must have been a pretty good show if there haven't been any updates on it yet :)

The show went really well; there was lots of interest, I got some cool leads, and I had a great time meeting all the Parallax guys.· I have pictures which I'll post later on.·

Working the show, standing (and playing guitar) all day,·and carrying all my gear back and forth ended up being very exhausting, so I didn't get any posts out in the evenings; I tended to crash as soon as I hit the hotel room.· Right now I'm at work catching-up.· I'll try to get the pics posted later this weekend.

I'll second that request. There's even a thread in the sandbox asking for this smile.gif

So, one thing -- hopefully it gives you a new respect for people that do shows, setup, carry the Smile, and stand there all day answering questions. It takes a lot out of you. So booth babes do actually do work, try standing for 8-10 hours and talking to nerds, that's a chore in itself!

But, one thing is for sure, I am certain you were impressed with the technology on the floor, mind boggling and wireless is so HOT right now, I bet that was the theme of the show everywhere you went on the floor.
