Code for MAX7219 for 8 digits display !

I wounder if some have a code for drive a MAX7219 for 8 digits display, for present for eg. time or a value ?
I know that have a serial interface (DIN , Klock, Load) , im not shure if it is like the Parallax Serial Display uint ?
