Ping and pets...

I'm in the process of getting my first boe bot and I figure since I'm buying I'll get the PIR and Ping. The question I have is if anyone has had any problem with the Ping
ultrasonics driving either their cats or dogs batty. I have both and I'm sure they aren't going to like my boe bot wandering around as it is. I'm certainly not looking
forward to discovering they can hear the Ping sensor and it irritates their hearing too.

my dog is terrified of my robot, but doesn't seem to mind watching from a distance, I don't think the ping effects him at all.

I imagine it would sound something like a ticking clock or a very short chirping sound to a dog...· The ping puts out a very short tic that you can actually hear if you hold close to your ear.· It's not a long tone but rather a quick chirp.· I'm guessing they aren't too bothered by it but have never really tried it on any pets.

I had a cat that was terribly afraid of a mechanical mouse that I bought for it to play with. No ultrasonics involved.

England is currently looking into banning an ultra-sonic device that chases away youths from loitering in front of convience stores. It was developed in Canada and seems to work well. Apparenty, they have ultra-sonic ability that disappears with age. There was indeed a time that I could here a high pitch whine from my parents color TV - it annoyed my sister, but I just ignored it.

In sum, I suspect each pet will make its own decision about the presence of a robot and they may have a completely unexpected reason for doing so. In general, cats are far more reluctant to accept changes in their home environment.

Also, it may be a simple question of the power output of the Ping. If it isn't loud enough to offend, it is ignored or tolerated. Frequency is not the only parameter.

Thanks guys. I sort of thought the frequency might be too high for them to hear, but I once had one of those ultrasonic rodent repellers that
drove the cats nuts. Was somewhat concerned about trying it again...
