Changes in BS2p40?

edited 2008-02-22 15:24 in BASIC Stamp
Good afternoon everyone.

I have been using a BS2p40 for a work application for about a year now. I have had no problem until recently. In 13 of the last 58 stamps we tried to program, I recieved the following problem:

"Can not download to this version of the device. Contact (*my company*) for updated software"

I am using the executable option for putting the code onto the device. I have no idea how or why my company's name got put into the error code.·

Any thoughts?

Can you explain what you mean by "I am using the executable option for putting the code onto the device. "?

Additionally, what exactly do you mean when you say "we tried to program ..."?

It's fairly obvious that you're not using the vanilla Parallax IDE to program your PBASIC Stamps, but it's not obvious exactly how you are trying to do so. Are you using the Parallax Tokenizer with a non-Windows environment?

Lastly, are you sure that error isn't comng from a user installed program on the Stamp. It's not a message I've ever seen, and I've seen most of them over the last 10 years or so.

    Regards,

    Bruce Bates

    S L F,
You may be using an old version of the Stamp IDE. When you compile a program, then produce a stand-alone executable for Windows, the IDE includes a loader with the compiled program. In your case, the loader may be an older version that doesn't recognize the BS2p40. Try downloading the Stamp program directly from the IDE (the Stamp Editor).

    Guys,

I am not doing anything crazy here. I am using The editor versioned 2.2.5 and to be more specific (for Bruce) I am using the tool under File->Generate Object File... command.

Is the 2.2.5 editor the wrong one? Remember it programmed 45 other boards from the same shipment without a problem!

We can not use the editor as we are sending the executable to a manufacturing group and they send the program to the Stamp in our application. We need it as an execuatable for propriatary reasons and to ensure the code does not get changed.

I think there was recently an upgrade of the BS2p to version 1.6, and you may need to upgrade your IDE to version 2.4. That is available on the Parallax downloads page. Could it be that your shipment contained mxed rev numbers? The IDE will Identify the version number of the connected stamp, even if it can't program it.

Tracy is correct…The error you’re getting indicates the version of the BASIC Stamp Firmware is newer than the Editor can handle. Please download the latest version and let us know if that solves your issue. Take care.

Thanks, guys! I downloaded the new Editor and it works great!

Chris, can I call you? Or someone in your company about future firmware releases?

    Thanks

You can always call our Tech Support Dept. if you’re having trouble. The error message was supposed to indicate that you needed an update to the software. Perhaps we should think about re-wording it. Take care.
