video input

hi.
I wanna get some kind of camera input to my propeller,
what is the best way to do this?
I have found some CMOS sensors from Texas instruments, but they dont have a lens, and no digital interface.
I have seen some small cameras mounted on pcbs with a lens and a composite video output. It occurred to me to use a cog for video capture.
Is there a pre-written video capture program for the prop, or is there a commercially available camera unit with a digital interface, and attached lens?

    Hi Lee,

Is this something along the lines of what you were thinking?

There is also the PropCam that Phil is working on: http://forums.parallax.com/forums/default.aspx?f=25&m=131097

There are a number of us who are waiting for this.

thanks guys, both options are definitely adequate.

now, how about the opposite?(might as well use this thread)
I have one of those alarm clocks that projects the time onto the ceiling. this tells me there must be a cheap way of making a small projector.
are there any small, low res lcd projectors(maybe 96x96)?

Simply experiment with a double convex lens (magnifying glass type) and somewhat bright light.

Actually, I'm thinking one of those miniDVD players several of us have been hacking away on might
work for this.. I've got to crack mine open again and see if I can remove the back material from the LCD.
Some bright LED light, and some maginification and it *might* make a cheap prop-jector...

Has anyone else looked at this possibility yet?

nice idea with the mini DVD player screen. But, what about interfacing?
w00t another question just dawned on me:
how do you interface a laptop screen?
ive seen 2, and they have the same connectors, so i assume there is some kind of standard.

Got the interfacing done.. I'll need to test to see if we can project it...

With a datasheet and a bottle of aspirin. They look like VGA LCDs but they are not.

Also, a well programmed FPGA helps from time to time...

Take a look at http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=693925 for a discussion on laptop lcd screen interfacing. Basically it doesn't seem very cost effective due to the LVDS interfacing requirements.
