hello,
I was looking into command line programming without a gui on Windows XP, and I learned
about this command netsh. It is used in some instances to set your bootcfg file. It's used
for home networking and you can re-set your network to the settings on the Windows XP
install date. There are alot of command line, commands and some of the familliar commands I
learned way-back on my first 286. Well I don't know too much about netsh yet!,...
but typing netsh diag gui carries out a number of diagnostics with your network.
commandwindows.com/netsh.htm This link details more than I can accurately
describe. like resetting your tcp/ip after spyware infestation or hyjackware. I thought this
was so cool I had to share and or ask If anyone knows more about XP command line
programming!?

Command Line programing in the XP is a bit complex - some go back to DOS commands of MS-DOS and others are quite new.

I use Command Line for Telnet and FTP on my LAN to talk with a small Telnet and FTP server. You can do similar things with Parallax's PINK.

But be warned, Microsoft's latest upgrade to Vista has an even more complex Command Line programming environment. A lot of security features were added. It really makes me want to stay with XP.

Google is your friend. There are whole websites devoted to explainng these feature and they really allow you to fully use your PC.

Making nice little desktop icons to start the ftp command line or open and close the cd drive.
batch processing to organize data, mp3, avi, ect...
Do you suppose there is a way to write two or more monitor (video) settings?
Like click the icon for automatically configuring the desktop from regular monitor settings to video, movie settings.
when I'm done programming basic stamps I like to click the icon to send the tokenized to the stamp for controlling it one way then click the second token to program the stamp the other way. All from icons on the desktop.
Just of interest from the c: prompt tracert command frm me to parallax.com it's like flying delta airlines.
actually parallax can't be pinged but dell.com is often the example.

Well, I am not a command line expert. Changing GUI settings might not be readily available as the command line really works in an ASCII like environment. You are taking about modifying the SHELL level.

It seems to me that each level of software [like BIOS, SHELL, and COMMAND LINE] take a certain amount of effort to develop expertise. The command line primarily allows you to change the computer's enviroment variables and to creat batch files. Unless I am wrong, the primary purposes are diagnostics, managing LAN and Net communicatons, file management, and printer i/o.

Mostly it support these for creating batch files to enable vendors to pull together their software for various resources.

There are interesting Shell Programs that are out there [try Google]. My favorite creates a spherical display format for screens rather than the typical tiled windows we have come to accept. You can install a free version of it.

I imagine that if you had two monitor cards, you might be able to jump from one setting to the other, but that presumes either two monitors or a switch to divert the video output. It gets kind of complicated. As it is, when I switch video settings it takes a minute or so for XP to revise the format; that is why I think two cards in parallel would be better, faster.
