Need help dont know what to start with.

Ok im working with a automotive gauge cluster and the coolant gauge for the motor works with a one wire serial transfer setup from what i have heard from some people who have hacked the stock ECU the gauge works with a 8byte data stream the first byte is the coolant temp,the last byte is the check sum.

This is the range for the gauge

Redline =10

Middle = 30

low = 100

anything below 10 sets a redlight on the cluster

It works off a TTL RS signal at 7812.5 baud rate but it can be 7900 or so i think they have transfered data at 7911 successfully the sensor that feeds the signal is just a variable resistor to ground depending on the coolant temp.

I dont know how to even start with this do i use the serout command for transferring the data to the cluster? Do i need another add on IC to send the data to the cluster?

Im not to worried about the input i think i can figure that part out but the data going out depending on the resistance value coming in is where im stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
