Just orderd Parallax 433 MHz transmitter/reciver pakage and i have read the datasheet for the LINX module that parallax use and what i can see there is very easy to modifye the module to transmitt upp to 3000 fett insted of 500+ feet. hop.gif

I dont know if i got your question, but the best way to increase range is to use a bigger and better antenna. You can buy 433 MHz antennas. The more Gain the antenna has (measured in dBA) the more effective it is at transmitting, and the fainter signals it can pick up. I am a radio amateur by the way smile.gif

How would you connect a different antenna to these units?

If you bypass resistor R5 the unit will send with maximum power, upp to 3000 feets.
But before doing that check your local laws it may be illegal to send whit the maximum power in some countrys.

Just take out the original antenna and connect a new one. If it is a 50ohm output, you can use regular 50ohm antennas. If the module is one of those that uses pcb antennas, it is not so straight forward.

    Hello,

There is a lot more to an antenna than just the load. Antennas for various frequencies are ‘tuned’ by making them a specific length. This along with other considerations helps the antenna be more sensitive to frequencies the device uses. You can’t just take a bigger better antenna and put it on. It make actually work with less sensitivity if its tuned for some other frequency range.

The devices have not been tested for such an operating temperature range. That is outside standard commcerial temperature range so I would have to say there is no guarantee it would operate at that temperature.
