On several occasions, I've thought it would be useful to be able to use normal html or java script in a forums post. For example, you could embed a youtube video in a post, instead of just a link to the video. I'm not sure how do-able this would be, but I definatle think it would be worth looking into.

I suspect the limitations you cite are there for a good reason. Allowing JavaScript and unimited HTML on a forum that anyone can post to would surely be a recipe for anarchy.
