Interface CD-ROM drive to a stamp

How would I go about using a regular DVD/CD rom from a computer(IDE) as a standalone player with Play/Pause/ and track skip. There is an kit you can buy from jaycarelectronics.com in the feb 08 nuts and volts magazine in one of the ADs on page 9, but I went to the site and can't find it. Many websites state that you just hook up the 4 pin audio to sound card port at the back and solder on rca jacks. These drives all had play/headphone jacks and volume control. I want to use a regular DVD burner with a dead write laser. All it has Is a load/eject button on the front and a 4-pin jack at the back. How hard is it to interface it to some buttons and maybe a display and IR remote?

Give them a call Monday. It may be so new it's not in the catalog yet. You would spend way more than $40 to do this with a stamp. (if it could be done)

Actually I emailed them. part number will be kc-5459 and will be available in 2-3 weeks. I figured that the stamp was based on a PIC this would be the place to ask. Jaycar is based in Austrillia, so I don't know about the total shipping, but yea it would probably be cheaper and the micro is already programmed. There is another article on http://siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_109528/article.html which would let you use 2 cdroms if you wanted, but I'm not paying like $7 dollars to read the rest of the article because the board looks almost the same as the picture in the nuts and volts article. It attaches to the cdrom through the IDC cable but i'm sure it doesn't use all the pins. There should be a way to do it cheaper than this, but for simplicity I'm better off waiting for that kit. I would still need a enclosure box, which is better than designing a one-off board and an enclosure.

I actually got around to ordering this kit. Still waiting for it in the mail. About 2 weeks now.
