Is stamp MC right for sub milisecond time counting?

I need help deciding which is the most cost effective chip for my timer project.
The requirement is that start and end time, duration must be displayed in 0.00001 seconds

I understand some of basic stamp can only count in 400us - 1 ms durations.
What is the right chip and would external crystal help?

An SX could do this for you. You could also use a 555 wired to a binary counter.
