MoCo the universal Motion Contoller

Since i had contact with the Propeller Chip i have been thinking of using it for controlling some motors.

i have done my first steps with UMDL and a simple stepper motor interface, then i have done the MoCo concept:

MoCo-Uebersicht.png

the block diagram shows like this:

MoCo-Blockdiagramm.png

finally i made a PCB

MoCo-B.JPG

and the PCB in the housing looks like:

The manual (draft) can be found :

    Hi Joerg

Looks nice..it the case din rail mountable.. really like the slim size of it ..

Update the pull ups on the I2C bus to 4.7K ..
There has been cases where there have been problems if there are external I2C chips are used.

We just updated those details as well on our PropBus system..

Will your system do step and direction signals to stepper motor amplifiers.?
Or will you have smallish onboard amps for stepper motors.

    Please advise.

    Dear Roland

    Thanks for the tips.

Since the MoCo concept should be very flexible, you can attach what you need or what you have. For the time being (tests etc.)
i will use the UMDL interfaces (SM-UNI and SM-BIP for small motors) later i will add some interfaces with higher output power (i.e LM298).
I will also do an patch PCB like this:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=51805

The EAGLE files for the patch module will be available on my site ( www.systech-gmbh.ch).
Later i will do a patch PCB with isolated in- and outputs.

The PCB may look strong because i used SMD headers on the top, but the simple reason is, that this way there is no need for plated drills
(only some wire jumpers from bottom to the top.

For the time being i do the connectons with wire jumpers as shown in the attachment.
