Hi

Only to know if the Parallax USB to Serial (RS-232) Adapter
Item code 28030,
could be used to connect a PIC instead of a Basic Stamp.

Thanks, Joe

That depends on your PIC circuitry. This adapter works like many other USB to serial adapters on the market, providing an RS-232 interface to a device designed for that. The Basic Stamp is designed for the use of an RS-232 interface (voltage levels) for programming. The PIC requires external circuitry for this and will be damaged if you connect it directly to the #28030 adapter. Parallax's USB2SER adapter is designed to provide a 5V logic level serial connection for a Stamp or other microprocessor and should work with a PIC to provide a serial connection over USB. If you need a 3.3V logic level serial connection, you'd use a PropPlug instead. It has a slightly different connector wiring, so it can't be substituted without changing the circuitry, but is functionally the same.
