Problem with 2x16 Serial LCD (Backlit)

I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem.· I have two Propeller proto-boards connected to the same 7.2V battery pack; I plan to have them communicate via a two wire serial interface.· Currently I have the serial LCD (2x16 from theParralax web site, backlit) connected to the regulated 5V on one of the protoboards; the other protoboard has not been interconnected, just powerd up.· The problem is that with the LCD working on one board, if I power cycle the other board, the serial LCD will suddenly turn on it's backlight and the SX chip will begin to rapidly overheat.· This happens when nether board is interconnected and with only power connected to the LCD, no RX pin connected.

I have already burned out one LCD while trouble shooting this problem.· I've measured the voltage to the LCD while power cycling the other proto board and it remains a steady 5V.· Any ideas on what could be causing this?
