I did it! Portable prop setup under $50

This may be more of a tease since it looks like I bought the last one. (at least till they restock)

It appears that the headset from the Spycar is quite hackable and also sold seperately

It's an easily hackable bw composite video display that is worn over one eye.

I've been shooting for a way to create a portable propeller setup for under $50. I think I finally did it.

Propeller Protoboard $20.00
Palm Keyboard $00.37
bw video headset $25.00

I believe the manufacturer of the headset has/had a contest that involves coming up with a cool idea for the headset. It seems they really like the idea of people buying the headset just to hack it into a NTSC/PAL display. The prize was a few free headsets.

Cool, Unfortunately these aren't practical if you (like me) wear glasses. After a quick search it seems the whole spy video car kit is available for around $60USD.

Just arrived this morning... Looking forward to cracking it open tonight..

Included were two candy suckers with some Toy ads. :) Guessing they figure that
it might make up for the fact that someone had to order a replacement because it
broke on some kid. :) <smirk>

Not sure if I'm actually going to be able to use it, as my cataract surgery has left
me with distance vision.. Figure that someone will want it if I can't use it.

You'll always have as many take-offs as landings, the trick is to be sure you can take-off again ;-)
BTW: I type as I'm thinking, so please don't take any offense at my writing style smile.gif

Very functional b/w eye display.. Forget trying to get the 40x25 driver working, but several games worked just fine. Even the text in frogger is readable. The tv_text driver works very well and is easily visible with the 7 line setting.

I'm pleased with the purchase.. Now if they would re-stock... :)

Actually, if you consider it... with Femto Basic and about 15 dollars more (for the SD Card adaptor from you know who), you also have a complete development environment. Let's see some pictures of the whole ball of wax:)

Sadly, it looks like I bought the last one... :( The link to the headset has
been completely removed from their website. Perhaps we will make
headway with that $20 portable DVD player mentioned in another thread.
Last check they still had 400+ units left. Plenty for all..
