Hi guys,

I was on a cnc controller website the other day and i saw that it said that t he software sent step and direction data to the parallel port. i then thought that maybe i could make one out of a stamp instead. it would probably be a lot cheaper but i just dont know how to do this.

thanks,
Bryan

It can probably be done and if you have plenty of time tools parts time and patience you could do it but it will take a lot of reading and understanding the CNC machine and what it wants for input and the microcontroller and what it is capable of. Good Luck on your endeavors

    Bryan,
I have a cnc setup and if you search through past post their are a few guys that have used the SX chip for CNC use but it does not work as good as a computer running the parallel port but you can look at this websight they have a very nice G-code software that allows you to control machines with cnc and it is not to costly.

If you want to use the basic stamp, SX or propeller they use them to make a stepper drive that takes the signals from the parrallel port and controlls the motors..
