shakehead.gif I have a Homework board and BoeBot kit. I have a serial to USB converter from Parallax. My problem is: I can "run" from my Desktop and not from my laptop. The only difference is the Laptop is running Vista. Any ideas?

Make sure you have the correct drivers for the USB converter. You may have to remove the existing drivers and reinstall. See the notes that accompany the adapter for more info.

In general when asking this kind of question, it's best if you also describe what happens when you try it. What error messages, if any, do you get? How far in the process do you get? (etc.)

Subject added…laptops have known issues with USB latency. For this reason we have covered this in the troubleshooting FAQ located at the bottom of our USB Driver download page. If you follow the suggestions in that it should work, assuming the correct drivers are installed for Vista. Take care.

And people HAVE had trouble installing the USB drivers under Vista -- I believe there's a VERY EXPLICIT order to do things in.

Vista makes things difficult sometimes, but I do have the FTDI drivers and the Parallax USB/Serial adapter working properly on this (Vista) machine, so it does work, and doesn't require Einstein to install.

I'm very pleased with that adapter - I'm using it with quite a few different niche serial products (rocketry, amateur radio, old GPS), and it always works.

The drivers are no problem with Vista.

Is your laptop plugged in?· I have had issues with port power provision with laptops when it is running off a battery.
