Possible to retrofit the BS2p40?

I was laying in bed staring at my creation mounted on the wall and I thought: Too bad I can't add anything else to it... All sixteen I/O pins are used!

I am using a BS2 on a Parallax Board of Education Rev. C. I am wondering: Is it possible to retrofit the 2p40 to the board- put it in the breadboard and connect jumpers to the chip and to the BS2 header or anything along those lines? I would like to know because I want to expand my creation.

You could remove the 24 pin Stamp from the BOE and, as you mentioned, put the 40 pin Stamp on the breadboard and connect it to the 24 pin Stamp socket using short jumpers. You'd get an extra 16 I/O pins that way.

    Hello,

There is more than one way to expand your I/O…If you need additional outputs or inputs you could use shift registers. Because of the stackable nature of these devices and the fact that an SPI bus can share the Clock and Data lines, you could have 32 additional outputs and 32 additional inputs by using only 4 BS2 I/O pins. The commands to output/input from these devices would be SHIFTOUT/SHIFTIN. Please see the PDF Stamp Works manual (Experiment #23-25) on our website for more information. I hope this helps. Take care.
