    abhin -

On what kind of surface did you do your testing, and what kind of surface will they be using for the contest?

Larger wheels will make it go faster with no other changes.

    Regards,

    Bruce Bates

Parallax has an adaptor that lets you add a 5th battery. That would be a 25% increase in voltage and some (I don't know how much) increase in speed if you power the servos from Vin. Bean (Hitt Consulting) (on these forums) sells a 5 battery holder. I have mounted 7.2 volt batteries from a hobby store to a boe bot with double sided velcro like tape from Radio Shack.

You might try increasing beyond +100 to see if there is anything left in the servo.

Well, (as a previous competitor of the Olympiad in AZ) I am pretty sure there are power limits on your vehicle (I'm asuming you're in the Electric Vehicle competition...). In that case you very well could increase the size of the wheels, which will increase you HIGH END speeds, but you must also make sure to give it enough torque, otherwise on a track of 5-10 meters, it could take quite a some time before it reaches top speed. You must try both scenarios (small Vs. large) and depending on which the best results are rearest, you then try to get a good mixture of both. AKA If you started with 2 ft sized wheels, it'll take much more power to turn them, but tiny 2 inch weels won't take the vehicle far enough in one cycle of the wheel. What type of motors are you using? Don't forget just because there is a VOLTAGE regulation, doesn't mean you can't give it more POWER!

    abhinavnalluri,
I was looking for larger wheels when I built my Boe-Bot, and what I did was take 2 wheels from an RC truck. I had to make a flat plate for the inside of the rim, and fastened the removable horn (that came with the servos) onto the inside of the wheel. It seemed to work great, and it did speed it up.
    Good luck.

Here is a link to some inexpensive 3" Diameter Wheels (picture attached). They are $4.99 a pair and replacement "o" rings are available.

    Good Luck!
