propCAN: a USB to CAN controller based on the Propeller chip and the MCP 2515 C

The development of propCAN using the propeller is an effort the scale of which cries for an engineering notebook of sorts for keeping track of what's been done and why and what still needs to be addressed.· Since I needed to create this I thought I'd experiment with maintaining this as a Blog from which we all may find some benefit.

You can find the propCAN development blog at http://propcandev.blogspot.com/

Please remember that it's a blog so you'll need to start by reading the bottom-most (oldest) posts first and when you finally get to the top you've caught up with me smile.gif .

I'm not just writing but I'm also including diagrams and captured waveforms along with narrative describing each. The noticeable difference from my other engineering notebooks is that my drawings in this case are not quick sketches in pen <grin>

Please feel free to comment and please let me know if you find this useful.

Enjoy!

@Stephen: I stopped by there yesterday - very nice! I'll be keeping an eye on it (I don't have immediate need for CAN, but it's interesting all the same) smile.gif

You'll always have as many take-offs as landings, the trick is to be sure you can take-off again ;-)

I looked at your can site. Very nice. I am not familiar with blog layout and can't find the first post. I am curious as the the purpose of the can. I read wiki and it says mostly for automotive use. This is exactly what I am doing so it is of some importance to me.
Where do I find the first page? The earliest I could find was dated 7Jan 2008 thanx

Hmm, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"

······· "No such thing as a dumb question" unless it's on the internet

    mosquito56,

··· Two ways to get to first (oldest) post:

···· (1) link at bottom of page to "Older Posts"

···· (2) link in left column to "And so it starts..."
·········· This is seen by expanding "2008" and
·········· then expanding "January" by clicking on
·········· the arrow-head at left of each these titles.

···· regarding the purpose of CAN... The US and German
···· amateur radio satellite groups are flying the CAN Bus
···· as a means to reduce the number of wires in the
···· satellite wiring harness.· Full detail of why is found
·····in one of the links mentioned in the early blog posts.

    Regards,
    Stephen, KZ0Q

    Hi Stephen,

I was just wondering - are any of you guys going to enter the Google LunarX prize?
