Help ID'ing IC A2211?

Hey folks,

been trying to find out what kind of IC this is.

It's part of the rs232 comms cct of a datalogger board (the logger is outputting, but won't accept commands...).
I can't find the chip logo anywhere, and the A2211 comes up as a delay line IC (not sure why that'd be in an RS232 cct.

There are 6N139's beside them...so made me think it was an opto of some sort (but why not use more '139's?)....

I'm working on figuring out the connections to this chip (darn multi-layered PCB!!).

Cheers

I guess I should try attaching the photo I took! Sorry!

    Steve,

That's a better-than-average closeup photo you've posted. What camera did you use?

BTW, I agree with Jon about the HP chip. The UL mark is another hint that it's an optoisolator. Try tracing the circuit to see if it's consistent with that hypothesis.

Could be a TPA6211 3 watt audio amplifier

Thanks guys, I'll have to check things at work tomorrow.
(didn't know that was a UL! still don't quite see it)

I had been looking at russian distributors and all! Guess I was surprised they didn't stick with a 6n/4n type of opto.

Phil, that is a Panasonic DMC-FZ4 in macro mode. I had the camera on high resolution and was about 8-10" above the board. There's enough pixels in the high resolution image that I didn't need to be right on the chip....I could get away with zooming/cropping the image and still have the definition I needed.
The only thing I have issue with on that camera, is the flash casting a shadow of the lens casing on to the image (you can see it on the bottom of that picture)....have to stay far enough back that I can illuminate the object and still get enough detail (hence the high res).

    Cheers

    Steve,

Thanks for the camera info. The UL mark, BTW, is that backwards "UR".

Hmmm...cheeky buggers and their DaVinci backwards writing scheme! (at least it was only 2 letters)

What sources do you guys use for hunting IC's. I had used Chipdocs and datasheetarchive....outside of those I google my ya ya's out!

    Cheers
