i have the learners edition of visual basic, and although i have the mscomm control
available i can not use it because i get an error message saying i need a license.
does anyone know how to obtain such a license?

    Hi Mize,

    I'm using the professional edition of Visual C++ and I have the mscomm control working. I don't know if it is the same as the control you would need and if it would work for you. I don't think it will work in your version of VB.

    Best would be to find an upgrade from your learning edition to 'Professional'.

    Try using the XMComm control.· It is free and is much like the MSComm control with a lot of additional features.

    Just beware that you get a long of highly annoying nag screens with that "free" control -- at least the last time I looked at it, anyway....
