PPDB PS2 to 3,3V FPGA

I have a DE0-Nano wired to one of the PS2 connectors on the PPDB and it works. I was wondering since the DE0-Nano is not 5V tolerant that I should do some level shifting to protect the DE0-Nano? Thanks.

  • I just looked at the PPDB schematic and it uses 3.3V pull ups so it looks like it is already 3.3V safe. I do have the VGA/Keyboard breakout as well but that has 5V pull ups so that one would require level shifting

You should be able to just use series resistors for 5V protection. Try 3K3 although you might be able to go down to 1k safely. I am not certain about the input protection on the FPGA. It’s not likely to be as robust as the prop.
