Line Follow Maze help

I've followed a few tutorials online (main one linked below), yet I can't get it right. Also linked is my code so far.

    Every so often when it hits a dead end it just starts rotating counterclockwise and gets stuck there. Also when it’s doing the second run with the shortest path it sometimes takes a turn too early.
