Robots are a lot of fun.

Robots that stream video over WiFi are even more fun!

Today I’ve updated my Elf Raspberry Pi based robot’s build log with instructions on:

adding a Raspberry Pi Camera
adding MJPG-Streamer so Elf streams what he sees over WiFi
adding a ramdisk for MJPG-Streamer so it won’t wear out the SD card

I hope you enjoy the Elf blog, and please feel free to ask any questions!

    Thanks Whit!

Next I will get h.264 streaming working for higher resolution and frame rates... then I will add a compass to RoboPi on Elf, so that I can navigate better.

Wifey does not know yet, but I am sorely tempted by lidar modules...

Don't know if you saw or remember this thread - erco is always on the hunt for a great deal - might check with him - sounds almost like a bargain - if you say it fast...

    Other good links there too...

That is a nice scanner... now how do I get it past wifey?

Hmm... maybe a subtle hint suggesting it as a Christmas present...

Subtle? I leave a detailed list...

Father's Day, Groundhog's Day, Thanksgiving.. Whatever it takes! And check with erco again - he probably has a source on a cheaper one now!

    Good luck!

After some dead ends, I got h.264 streaming working following a nice simple blog article by Martin.

    1296x972 @ 24fps

    High latency though (2 sec)

    http://www.mikronauts.com/robot-zoo/elf-2wd-pi-robot/7/

Now I need to reduce the latency...
