I've been just clicking the "report this post" button for these. Is it better to also post a warning like this?

We are receiving the Forum Moderator e-mails that our members are reporting - at least eight of them last night.

Most of our forum moderators from Parallax do not read the forums on the weekend. Either I'll find somebody to do that job or we'll recruit from the member list a new moderator.

I'm not easily understanding how to use vBulletin to ban users but I'll figure it out this morning.

Okay, figured it out. Very easy. vBulletin allows a clean sweep of all posts from a single person coupled with a permanent ban in one step.

I've suggested it before, but no-one seemed interested. Why don't you simply moderate new members' posts? I do this with all the groups I run (one has nearly 9,000 members) and it completely eliminates spam, apart from that from clever people who manage to spoof someone else's account. I also approve all new members. Administering those groups only takes a few minutes a day; the members are very appreciative.

I'd rather see a little spam removed from time to time, than diminish someone's excitement about the Prop by making them wait for someone to approve them.

I'll second that. It's not like we're inundated with SPAM. Let's not fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Hear hear. I just tried to look around at opencores.org and found out you have to tell them all about yourself and be "approved" before you can download anything. Bleh!

Given the current moderator coverage on weekends or overnight (US), we would expect some of the newbie posts to sit for several hours before a moderator would release them into the forum. That might frustrate some participants, especially anyone who has to wait for the weekend to play with their electronics.

We should work on better moderator coverage.

Agree with Jim Ewald - we don't need to add any delays to enthusiastic posters by approving their first message.

    Good call.

Sometimes, when people sign up, they get distracted and into something else, leaving the action to be forgotten. If they do post, they will be very highly likely to come back to check to see whether or not something happened.

Besides, we bag the spammers quickly anyway. Never been a problem, and a coupla them have been funny.
