And I am working on a real commercial robot that EVERYBODY will need. Yes, this means you! And yes, all my prototypes are BS2-based! Steve Jobs doesn't see this one coming!

This one is focusable, which might help the scan accuracy (if it can be focused to a thinner line than the one you ordered).
I'm gonna have to try this scanner myself. Looks pretty cool.

Yes indeed I have managed to scan a few things! It comes out pretty decently if you've got the time and patience to scan multiple angles of the same object and use the Shapefusion thing that's built in (I don't right now LOL). Depending on your available equipment, your results will vary. I'm using a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 and a green laser line as I hear it's more reflective on dark objects. Anyway, here are some of the scans I've done...

I think they came out quite good considering these are single angle scans. I totally believe those scans are real and possible though now that I've done it myself and I recommend everyone at least try it. I basically just wanted to get my feet wet. I'm going to be building a bigger rig soon that can accommodate bigger objects. I'm currently working with OpenGL in my spare time (aspiring to be a video game developer) and I can say that these models are very easy to work with once imported into a 3d mesh editor like MeshLab or Blender. I can definitely see myself getting more into this once I've finished making the game engine I'm working on.
Again, just to be clear. My scans are only partial surfaces because I didn't take multiple scans and blend them together (too much effort and not that important to me just yet). This is very real and awesome stuff! I'm sorry I didn't see your posts for more info earlier erco! I've been playing with this for already half a month!
