Idea for a new Xbee daughterboard for the Basic Stamp 2pe Motherboard

Hi all, i was thinking this weekend about a new daughterboard for the Basic Stamp 2pe Motherboard.·A Xbee 5v/3.3v adapter that plugs/mounts onto the 2pe mobo then the customer can plug in their choice of xbee (series 1). What does anyone else think about this? i think it would be great for serial comms, although some of the i/o's would be limited because of the mobo header.

    You mean like this one?

It also works with the Propeller Backpack and, hopefully, with Parallax's new Propeller ethernet board.

It's actually a design I've had in prototype form for a couple years. It hasn't been assigned a part number yet, but Ken has asked me move forward with it in anticipation of the ethernet board. It's on my list and getting bumped closer to the top. smile.gif

Sweet! what about the i/o are all of them avaliable from the xbee? i was thinking that there might be a bottleneck there as far as avaliable pins on the header.

The pins that are available are TxD, RxD, /CTS, and /RTS. For the MoBoStamp-pe, the data pins are common to the AVR and Stamp; the handshaking pins, to the AVR only. For the Prop Backpack, this equates to data on A2 and A3, handshaking on A0 and A1. For the ethernet board, these signals will be on pins A24 - A27, which are otherwise unassigned.

The board includes two bi-color LEDs: transmit/receive and RSSI. The RSSI LED gradually transitions from red to green as received signal strength increases.

Nice work Phil! I like the RSSI LED sig. strength idea, that will be very useful! I look forward to getting one of these for my 2pe mobo!
