Any advice for implementing 3G connectivity?

I'm trying to create a remote camera system for monitoring my house being built. It has no internet, but does have power. I'm thinking I'll have to use a 3G modem to get the pics to upload. Are there any Parallax products that can work with a 3G (usb) modem? If not, can you think of any other ways to get frequent updates from a remote camera without having to go to the site?

Thanks so much!

I don't think Parallax has anything in the product line that will do that.

    What's the range?

There are cameras that will transmit over up to 30 - 40 mile range:

    Thanks Jim-
The range is... I'm trying to get it up to the net from the camera. I'm 150 miles away so it has to be internet.

If you have a neighbor within a few miles range, you could get a directional antenna to push the camera output to them, and them have the insert it into the internet.

Geg a MiFi2200 from Sprint or Verizon; this is a self-contained device that connects to the 3G network and creates a WiFi hotspot. (Mine was $29 after rebate from Verizon with a 2 year contract on the data plan.) Then use any standard wireless access point such as the TrendNET TEW430APB (about $35 from Amazon) in "access point CLIENT" mode to create an ethernet bridge to the hotspot, or use a camera with built-in WiFi.

The only caveat here is that my verizon MiFi has needed to be reset a couple of times; the device can be configured to stay on all the time when it has power but the firmware may not really be all that good at dealing with that. There are other (more expensive and bulky) solutions that you can plug a generic 3G USB stick into to create a wifi hotspot that might work better unattended. I think for what you want to do 3G to WiFi is going to be the cleanest solution though.

Hello fshrking, I am a little late at this but, if you still monitoring the Forum!
Another solutions maybe, to get a cheap PC (motherboard) plug the 3G modem and the web-cam to it, and setup the system to send
    the pictures over the web...
I am using almost the same system at my boat - well, not quite the same - I'm using an old PC motherbords & its power supply + 3G
modem + web-cam.·The system has no needs for a permanent·monitor, but only when you installing and·setting up, as soon as·you
have finished with·the setup, you can just plug/take off·the monitor.·All the system could be placed,·in the almost one·little box!
